The Kälen Ni-Cu-Co Project is located in the well-renowned 'Västerbotten Nickel Line' in northern Sweden, 8km NW of the village of Tvärålund.

REGIONAL GEOLOGICAL SETTING & MINERAL ENDOWMENT


The Kälen Ni-Cu-Co-PGE Project is located within the Bothnia-Skellefteå lithotectonic unit which forms the largest segment of the 2.0-1.8Ga Svecokarelian orogen in Sweden and comprises two main paleotectonic entities; the Bothnian basin and the Skellefteå-Arvidsjaur magmatic province. The Bothnia–Skellefteå lithotectonic unit is dominated by metamorphosed siliciclastic sedimentary rocks, typically deposited as turbiditic wacke and argillite in the submarine Bothnian basin during the time span 1.96 (or older)–1.86 Ga, and interleaved with subordinate amphibolite and metavolcanic rocks. These rocks (the Bothnian Supergroup and Härnö group) are intruded by various plutonic suites emplaced at 1.95–1.93, 1.90–1.88,1.87–1.85 and 1.81–1.76 Ga. The siliciclastic metasedimentary rocks host orogenic gold deposits in the northwestern part of the lithotectonic unit where the metasedimentary rocks are characterised by an intense magnetic banding defining an overall N-S to NNE–SSW structural grain related to intercalations of graphite- and pyrrhotite-rich argillitic horizons. Magmatic, intrusion-related, Ni-Cu-Co-PGE mineralisation within the Bothnia-Skellefteå lithotectonic unit is hosted by mafic-ultramafic rocks typically within metasedimentary paragneisses and migmatites. A series of deposits in the area located west to southwest of the main Skellefte Belt are colloquially referred to as belonging to the 'Västerbotten Nickel Line'. 


The Lappvattnet and Rörmyrberget deposits, located approximately 30km south and 120km southwest of Skellefteå respectively are comparable regional examples with potential similarities to the mineralisation at Kälen. 


Lappvattnet

At the Lappvattnet deposit, the nickel sulphides are hosted by an ultramafic intrusion that includes both metaperidotites and metapyroxenites. The metaperidotite commonly displays a characteristic ‘jackstraw’ texture. The ultramafic intrusion occurs within gneissic to magmatic metagreywackes and biotite-graphite gneiss of the Bothnian Supergroup. The Ni-Cu sulphides are confined mainly to the ultramafic bodies, but extensive remobilisation has occurred at Lappvattnet where in some instances, the sulphides are hosted by surrounding paragneisses as both fragmental and breccia zones. Sulphides consist of pyrrhotite, pentlandite and chalcopyrite and the mineralization dips steeply to the south and plunges shallowly eastward. The current (Gungnir Resources, 2020) Inferred Mineral Resource Estimate for the Lappvattnet deposit is 780,000t @ 1.35% Ni, 0.25% Cu and 0.025% Co (1.54% NiEq). 


Rörmyrberget

The Rörmyrberget deposit is located at the southwestern end of the Västerbotten Nickel Line. The nickel sulphides are hosted by the largest of the ultramafic intrusions in the district, measuring 1.7km long and over 300m wide with currently undefined depth limits. The Rörmyrberget intrusion includes both metaperidotites and metapyroxenites as at Lappvattnet which intrude gneissic to magmatic metagreywackes and biotite-graphite gneiss of the Bothnian Supergroup. Sulphides at Rörmyrberget consist of pyrrhotite, pentlandite and chalcopyrite and are confined to the ultramafic body. Mineralisation consists of both massive sulphide and disseminated zones. As many as eleven, sub-parallel, steeply south-dipping zones of mineralisation have been defined historically and comprise the Rörmyrberget deposit. The current (Gungnir Resources, 2020) Inferred Mineral Resource Estimate for the Rörmyrberget deposit is 36,800,000t @ 0.19% Ni, 0.02% Cu and 0.009% Co (0,21% NiEq). 


Both the geologic setting and mineralogy of these two deposits are similar to what is indicated by historical records for the Kälen deposit and they are presented as potential correlatives showing the upside potential at Kälen.
